Man! I have been MIA for a while! Life has a funny way of taking over sometimes! But, I think we have settled into our new normal, and it feels so good to get back behind the machines again! If you don’t follow me on Facebook or IG, we moved in September 2016 and added a baby to the mix in January 2017. A preschooler and a newborn (and a teenager) definitely keep me on my toes these days!
Anywho…on to the SEWING!! Jody has been wearing a Four Seasons Cardigan that I made during a tour a few years ago (or maybe is was during testing??) quite frequently these days. She also recently asked me to make her a few more as the weather here in CA has been chilly in the mornings while she is walking to school, and hot and muggy by the time she walks home! Perfect timing for the EYMM Cozy Up to Fall Blog Tour!
Not only did I make her a new sweater, I made her THREE, and all are out of different fabrics for different looks!
The first is a thin sweater knit I have had sitting in my staff for a while now. I love the look of the stripes, but am really bad at fussy cutting to make them line up (i didn’t do too bad this time around!), so the stripes tend to sit on the shelf until requested by a customer or my daughter! She loves that it is super light so she can wear it under a regular jacket and still look “put together”.
The second one I sewed up is a slinking floral I got in a mystery box from Sincerely Rylee a few months ago. It is so soft! I love the bright color and the larger floral print. This one has a definite 4 way stretch, so Jody loves this one the most! As you can tell by these pictures, she was not thrilled to be modeling. As she is getting older, she really doesn’t want to be in front of the camera as much!
Finally, I decided to step out of the “normal” fabric choices for this pattern and try it in a sweater fleece that I picked up at Joann Fabrics a few years ago. It is cozy and warm, but I think next time, I will made a few adjustments to the arms as she says they are a little tighter than the other two. As soon as I can find it in the boxes (yep, still haven’t unpacked all the sewing stuff yet!), I am going to add lace as a finishing for this one, as the sweater fleece feels like it needs something. She finally gave me a decent shot!
I hope I gave you some ideas on taking a pattern and stepping outside the box to try something new! As an added bonus, I am going to select 1 person from the comments to win a $10 store credit to EYMM! So be sure to leave a comment about your fall sewing!

Every other Wednesday, Danielle from Whimsical Fabrics puts a bundle of fabrics on sale in her group for a special price. I have been purchasing mine ahead of time. We have had a blast picking out patterns and brainstorming what can be done with these bundles. This weeks is Summer celebration by Riley Blake. It just screams spring and summer!
For this bundle, after brainstorming, we thought it would make a beautiful Sofia Beach bag from Swoon….so I ordered the 1 1/2 yards it would take, thinking fully that that would be what it would become. When the fabric arrived, the teen said she wanted a skirt out of it. I brushed her off and printed out my bag pattern. As I was putting my pattern together to cut it out, she came over and again told me that she really wanted a skirt out of it and that I could use 2 of the prints for shorts for her brother. She rarely ever asks me to sew her something out of a specific fabric, and usually, if I tell her the fabric is earmarked for something, she ends the discussion there. What is a momma to do? I made her a skirt of course!
I used the Tie Dye Diva Patterns Chocolate Chip Skirt. I made the reversible option with the yellow scales on the reversed side. She was thrilled when she walked out to see the finished product!
I didn’t adjust the length at all, since she prefers a longer skirt, and the way she has been growing, it will be above her knees by summer! There is also a kids version called the Potato Chip Skirt
Sizes included: XS through XXXL
It’s designed to be an easy and quick sew with a flat front, elastic back, and inset pockets.
Unlined, lined, or reversible options.
Pockets with piping and the ability to show a contrast fabric.
Flat front and gathered back.
Recommended sewing experience: A quick sew with no gathering needed – a great first ‘self sewing’ project! Beginner/Advanced Beginner.
For the toddler’s shorts, I used another Tie Dy Diva pattern! The Way Cool Shorts were perfect for some cotton shorts to kick off sewing for warmer weather! I actually made him 2 pair, and already planning more! Next time, I will add the cargo pockets or some side seam pockets as he definitely asked about where his pockets were to store his flowers and rocks!
Sizes 2T, 3T, 4T, 6 and 8
Optional cargo pockets
Faux fly in front
Elastic waist
You can pick up your fabric bundle today in the Whimsical Fabric & Me Group on Facebook! Sale goes live at 12 noon CST (1 pm EST, 10 am PST). Bundles are while supplies last! Last bundle (see my creations here) sold out in just 15 minutes!
If you have been sewing a while, you are probably familiar with Jocole. I love her patterns! The Derby Jacket was the first pattern I bought (a couple years ago!), during her weekly sale. That was the beginning of the end! I was hooked! Now, I own every pattern of hers, and have made numerous over the years! Now, I get to share some of my favorite bloggers with you this week, and they are sharing some of their favorite Jocole patterns!
Whether you are looking for ladies patterns or girls, there is something for you! I love the Endless dress and add-ons!
I used lace on the hem of this one!
I used this dress for a tutorial over on Pattern Revolution to replace the buttons with a zipper!
The Yoga A-Line Skirt is a staple for me for summer (I have 4 in my closet right now and plans for more this summer!
I used scraps to sew the 6 Panel skirt– Twice! Once in Cotton wovens and once with knits!
I have a pair of skinny’s ready to be sewn this week (maybe I’ll share them at the beginning of next week?)
For now, let me share some previews of the patterns coming up this week!

This week, I am excited to share with you the 5 out of 4 Fleece pullover! I have started sewing more for my little guy, but have had a hard time picking patterns and prints that reflect his style. Yep, at 2 1/2, he already knows what he likes and has no problem telling us! He loves to dress “just like Daddy!” which means jeans and a tee shirt. I debated sewing one of these for myself, and as soon as I pulled out the tub of fleece, he ran over and grabbed this TMNT fleece and told me “I love this momma!” I knew then that I could make this for him!
He loves TMNT, and just recently received this chair, so he was thrilled that we took it outside for some pictures!
The pattern comes with layers, which makes printing super easy! There are plenty of option within the pattern as well- pockets, color blocking, and zippered pockets!
I sewed up the children’s version, which covers sizes 2-18. There are separate patterns for both men and ladies available as well. I can’t wait to get some more fleece and make these for the whole family!
I struggled with my zipper a bit, and after talkign with the designer, I am ordering some wonder tape (which she recommends in the pattern) for my next one! I love that she uses a knit facing for the zipper which also covers the zipper, reducing the “itchy” factor for little ones! I followed the size chart for his chest measurement and the fit is spot on. I think next time, I will go up a size for this guy, as this one fits just perfect, and I like to have some growing room!
Be sure to check the logs below all throughout the week as we share our visions for this awesome pattern! Check out the 5 out of 4 Facebook page throughout the week as well, They are heading towards their 1 year anniversary, and I know she has some fun planned!

Today, I have a fun little outfit, great fabric deal, and a coupon code! Be sure to read all the way down!
If you follow the blog, you will remember these cute skirts from a couple weeks ago. Well, I am back with another fun bundle from Whimsical Fabrics!
I sewed up a Delaney and the Birdie Ruffle Pants from SIGnature Creations. I used this weeks Wacky Wednesday bundle from Whimsical Fabric. They have these deals a couple times a month. They are usually 3-4 fabrics from a cute line, at a steep discount for 24 hours or until it sells out! These are available in her group page.
I have had the Delaney pattern forever! I fell in love with it, but my super modest kiddo refused to wear it with the open back, of course, now at 13, she is saying “I could put a cami under it!”, which is a valid point, it is super cute layered as well!
When I saw these fabrics, I fell in love with this outfit immediately!
Just look at that cute bow in the back! If you like options, she also has an add on pack with options to close the back, add a corset, and a few other choices.
These fabrics are just such a cute set! I love the little mice and birds on the main navy fabric!
For the birdie pants, I altered the construction and how I did the ruffles and the waistband. Rather than sewing the bottom ruffle on, then sewing the second ruffle on top, I opted to layer them together and sew them on at the same time. it is a little trickier to ruffle the 2 fabrics at the same time, but I just went slow and it worked out in the end.
For the waistband, I used my favorite tutorial by Jocole for a truly no roll waistband. This is the only way I will sew an elastic waistband these days!
The fabrics are just perfect together! I used a 1 yard bundle for this outfit (a size 3T), and I have 24″ of the pink, and 18″ of the other 3 fabrics left over.
These will be available in the Whimsical Fabric group today! Here are the details for the Wacky Wednesday deal:
WACKY WEDNESDAY BUNDLE DEAL – Riley Blake Quilting Cotton
You will receive 4 (FOUR) fabrics in your bundle; the three fabric pictured together along with a 4th fabric of your choice from the numbered images.
If you would like multiple bundles the fabric is still on the bolt and will be cut in continuous yardage.
Patterns are available from SIGnature Creations and use the code FABRIC30 for a 30% discount on her Etsy page!
Look how cute this bow is!
Happy Sewing!

I have fallen in love with the rag quilts that Bobbie from A Vision To Remember creates! With each new pattern I try, I am getting better at visualizing the final product!
Today, I have her Easy Peasy Rag Quilt for day one of the Blog tour.
With the holiday season quickly approaching, I decided to get a jump start on holiday items for my shop. The directions tell you the quantity of each piece and the measurements for the 3 pieces. I was able to get it all cut out during my son’s “quiet time”. I did the sewing over 2 days, sitting maybe an hour each day. the pattern also includes the directions to make a car seat canopy!
I did take her advice and pick up (ok, ordered from amazon) a pair of the heritage scissors that she recommends in the pattern. It was worth the investment if you plan on making a few of these!
I chose a cute Gingerbread print with a coordinating red and green solid. I bought 2 yards of each color and had about 8 inches of the print and the red left over and only used 1 yard of the green.
Before I even finished this one, my 2 yr old told me it looked like a blanket for him..guess I better get to work on his for Christmas!
It is even pretty on the backside!
I hope you will follow along on this tour and be sure to visit each day!
