Wacky Wednesday July 27

Every other Wednesday, Danielle from Whimsical Fabrics puts a bundle of fabrics on sale in her group for a special price. I have been purchasing mine ahead of time. We have had a blast picking out patterns and brainstorming what can be done with these bundles. This weeks bundle is titled Le Vie Boheme. Look how awesome this line is!

As life here has been extremely busy the past couple weeks, I haven’t had a chance to sew up my projects with my bundle, but I am going to share the cut projects with you, as it is really impressive how many items I was able to get cut out of it!

IMG_1525[1]

Yep, that is SIX projects cut out of a 1 yard bundle. As I was going through my patterns, I was trying to find something that I hadn’t sewn before, a designer I hadn’t featured before, and that the fabric would work with. I ended up opening my Avilo Charlotte folder and remembering I had a lot of her patterns from a sale a while back. Let’s look a bit closer at what all is there!

On the top left corner is the zipper coin purse. This is one of those quick projects, that once you make one, you are going to want one to match every bag you sew!

IMG_1526[1]

To the right of the coin purse, I have the Wristlet/clutch/minipurse which is perfect for those times you don’t need to bring the kitchen sink with you!

IMG_1527[1]

Below these two, I have the scoop tote. I think this is the bag that I am most excited to sew up. I love the red and navy prints together and the unique look of the bag.

IMG_1528[1]

On the right is the Curvy Trio. This is a great pattern, 3 different bags in one pattern. I have cut one of each out, and will have a fun coordinating set once all the sewing is done!

IMG_1529[1]

I hope your summer as been calmer than mine and you will have time to sew up your projects quick!

If you haven’t shopped the Wacky Wednesday deal before, here is how it works: At 12 noon CST (1 pm EST, 10 AM PST), Danielle will post the fabric for today’s deal.

You will receive each of these 5 fabrics in your bundle.
If you would like multiple bundles the fabric is still on the bolt and will be cut in continuous yardage.

• FULL YARD Bundle (5 total yards)
• HALF YARD Bundle (2.5 total yards)

Be sure to be in the Whimsical Fabric & me Facebook group so you don’t miss out! These deals are usually good for 24 hours, but have been selling out quick lately!

Every other Wednesday, Danielle from Whimsical Fabrics puts a bundle of fabrics on sale in her group for a special price. I have been purchasing mine ahead of time. We have had a blast picking out patterns and brainstorming what can be done with these bundles. This weeks is Drift by Art Gallery Fabrics. It really screams ocean to me. I already have plans to make some fun stuff with it!

For this week’s bundle, I really wanted to share what you could do with only a 1/2 yard bundle. I generally use a full 1 yard bundle in my posts. I think it was more of a challenge for myself though. I rarely buy less than a yard of any fabric!

It has been a while since I posted a bag, so I jumped in to think about what bag I could make, I’m sure there are a lot! I settled on the Swoon Coraline* for some cute make-up or pencil pouches. I left off all handle options for this. That is the only modification I made! These are prefect for keeping your Jamberry’s safe too!

IMG_1099[1]

I made 3 and still had enough scraps to make at least 3 more!

The fabric sews up so nice! I am always so happy with AGF wovens and knits! I have plans to pick up more today during the sale (if it doesn’t sell out before I can get on!)

If you haven’t shopped the Wacky Wednesday deal before, here is how it works: At 12 noon CST (1 pm EST, 10 AM PST), Danielle will post the fabric for today’s deal.

You will receive each of these 6 fabrics in your bundle.
If you would like multiple bundles the fabric is still on the bolt and will be cut in continuous yardage.

• FULL YARD Bundle (6 total yards)
• HALF YARD Bundle (3 total yards)

Be sure to be in the Whimsical Fabric & me Facebook group so you don’t miss out! These deals are usually good for 24 hours, but have been selling out quick lately!

Whimsical Fabric Wacky Wednesday

If you haven’t figured it out, I love bag making! I also love Whimsical Fabric! Every other Wednesday, Danielle puts a bundle of fabrics on sale in her group for a special price. I have been purchasing mine ahead of time. We have had a blast picking out patterns and brainstorming what can be done with these bundles.
Today’s bundle is Art Gallery Fabrics Geometric Bliss in the Turquoise Angle colorway. It’s by Jenni Baker of In Color Order.

Isn’t it just gorgeous??

For this bundle, I decided to make a Donna from Swoon. I love her construction and the ease of using her patterns. Of course Danielle challenged me to make a matching pearl to go with it. I accepted and killed it!

IMG_3778

Both these patterns were easy to put together. Let’s talk about pearl for a moment.

IMG_3788

this is one of those patterns that you see and think, “there is no way I can sew a wallet!” Let me tell you, the hardest part of it was folding the card slots the right way!” Once that was done, it sewed up pretty quick! I love the entire thing! It has a removable bifold, a zipper pocket for change, and is thin enough to slip into a purse easily!

IMG_3790

Donna was a pretty straight forward bag, a slip pocket on the outside, a zipper pocket on the inside and a drop in lining. I still struggle with the drop on linings, but I am slowly getting better! I love the front pocket with the piping detail!

IMG_3781

We posted a sneak peek yesterday in the Whimsical Fabric group, and it has sparked a lot of questions about my logo and my labels. My logo was designed by a friend from an idea in my head, but my labels I bought from a company on Etsy called Mountain Street Arts. Pam was wonderful to work with, and the turnaround was super fast! If you message her, be sure to let her know you came over from the CBAT blog!

IMG_3783

I love the mint green on the inside!

IMG_3791

card slots..probably the toughest part of the wallet!

Just a reminder, the Wacky Wednesday Deal starts at 12 pm CST (10 am PST) and is good only until it sells out (and I know this one will!) so be sure to head over there and snag yous quick!

And a little side note..Miss Danielle doesn’t know this yet, but she loves this set so much, it is being sent to her today 😉

Happy Sewing!

Swooning for Whimsical Fabric

If you follow me at all, you know I love Whimsical Fabric. I have been buying my fabric from her for a while now. Twice a month, she has “Wacky Wednesday”. On these days, she has a set of fabrics from a line, usually 1 main print and 2-4 coordinates, that she posts in her group for a great deal. The catch? you have to buy the bundle, no picking and choosing what fabrics you want from it. Today is a Wacky Wednesday and I LOVE the fabric she chose for today! I had the chance to purchase my bundle earlier and sew it up to share.  The pictures don’t come close to how gorgeous this fabric is in real life!

IMG_3671

You might have seen this sneak I posted in the group last night, we love to tease you, don’t we? The Fabric is Nordika by Art Gallery Fabrics. This cotton is so soft! it is almost silky to the touch! As soon as I saw it, I knew it needed to be a bag! Of course, I turned to my favorite bag maker Swoon*! I decided to step out of my comfort zone and make a bag I hadn’t made before, and landed on the Swoon Vivian*. I also made the Have it All wallet from Straight Stitch to match.

IMG_3664

This fabric sewed up so nice! The colors are perfect! I cannot wait to buy more of this!

IMG_3666

I just love the colors together and the prints are not so busy that you get lost in them!

IMG_3673

I used the grey inside the purse and I just love how it counters the bright red!

Now, lets talk the patterns!

The Straight Stitch Have it All Wallet was intimidating-UNTIL I Started sewing it! Once I started sewing, it took me a total of about 2 hours to sew up! The directions are clear and concise. The only thing I haven’t done yet is add a snap closure! I think a certain 2 year old hid my snap pliers! I have a new set coming tomorrow to finish it up! I also used a fusible stabilizer rather than a sew in since that is what I had on hand!

IMG_3670

Swoon Vivian. I am in love with the final result! I made a few mistakes while sewing her up, but since this one is for me, I am okay with these little imperfections! As always Swoon directions are easy to follow and everything is broke down into steps, making it easy to stop when needed for a break (or to tend to the kids!) and come back and pick it up again! Total time put into this bag is close to 8 hours but it was my first run with it, so I’m sure the next one will be quicker!

IMG_3667 IMG_3672 IMG_3664

Be sure to head over to the Whimsical Fabric Group today at noon Central (10 am PST!) to grab your bundle!

Color Me Fabric by Hayley Crouse

I had the wonderful opportunity to play with some of the new prints of Color Me Fabric by Hayley Crouse for Micheal Miller. As soon as I saw this floral, I knew it was destined to be a bag or purse of some kind! I wanted a pattern that I could showcase the print without breaking it up too much. The search was on! I started looking at the patterns I had in my pattern stash, and man, the options! I decided to try a swoon pattern that I hadn’t sewn yet, as the numerous other patterns from her that I have sewn have all come out perfect! I wanted something with simple lines and a couple pockets. I ended up picking Ethel. She is a free pattern, so be sure to show Swoon your love and appreciation!

IMG_3646
Close up of the front pocket

This fabric was a dream to sew up! I didn’t prewash it as I was making a bag, but I did iron it with some best press. the fabric took to the hot iron well, and slid through my machine so nice! I paired the back and white fabric with a nice bright solid yellow. as I was going through my solid stash to pick a color, I wasn’t falling in love with anything until I pulled the yellow out! It is so bright and cheery!

IMG_3642 IMG_3644

I opted for a 2nd slip pocket rather than a zipper, as I wanted a place to put my phone when I am out that is easily accessible. The bag also has a larger slip pocket that is perfect for coupons and cards that I like to keep handy!

I am excited to purchase more of this line when it releases! I see many more bags and wallets coming soon!

Which print are you most excited for?

When I first saw this purse, I was enthralled! It was not like most bags I see or that I sew. I had not made a rag quilt in a few years, and immediately knew what fabrics I would chose, regardless of what my twelve yr old said!

IMG_3192

I love how big this bag is! I can easily carry my usual items- my wallet, phone, keys, and tissues- along with a carry case of baby wipes and a spare set of clothes for my 2 yr old! At 15″ wide at the base, 11″ tall, and 4 1/2″ deep, this bag is perfect for everyday activities! It would be perfect done in pastels for a dance bag or in a fun print to tote toys or activities to and from the car when traveling!

IMG_3195

The pattern is easy to follow, with only 1 pattern piece and then measurements for cutting everything else out, it makes my printer happy!

The options for this bag are pretty great too! It includes two outside ‘quilt as you go’ pockets, a large inside pocket (or divider) and a smaller inside pocket. You can leave off or add more pockets if you wish. The pattern calls for stiff interfacing (if desired) to give the bag body. I opted to leave it out, as I made mine out of flannel and wanted the soft floppy hobo bag feel/look to mine. The top of the bag closes with a zipper, and the pattern includes directions for a regular zipper along with an exposed zipper!

I have already had my daughter ask for a bag of her own, and I imagine I will get a few more requests as I am out and about with my new bag!

I own a few of her patterns now, and sewed up a striped rag quilt for a baby gift I am working on. I love the simplicity of this one!

What fabrics would you pick for a bag? or go check out A Vision to Remember and tell me what pattern you would make!

Happy Sewing!
